Over 100 calls relating to drug abuse made to the WCED call centre

The Western Cape Department of Education has confirmed that it received 135 calls in 2013 concerning substance abuse.

This was through its Schools Call Centre.

WCED’s Paddy Attwell said of this substance abuse five relates to alcohol, seven to cigarettes and 123 to drug abuse.

Attwell said these drug abuse mainly referred to tik and dagga.

He added that the schools received 37 calls for first term and most of were seeking advice.
