Police investigates the death of three children in Polokwane

Police in Polokwane are investigating the deaths of three children aged between four and nine-years-old, who were killed in a fire. 

It is alleged that the children were sleeping when the mud hut they were in caught alight. 

Police said the children were at the time staying with their 46-year-old grandmother in the Mabidi Village. 

Police Spokesperson Ronel Otto said for now they have opened an inquest case but should the tests prove that the fire was set maliciously the charges will change.

“We are also investigating allegations that the mother of the children was involved in case of stock theft earliar this month.

She was arrested with a group of other people and appeared in court for the charge she was released on bail and is due to be in court again early next month.” Otto added.

The allegations are that the members of the community might have set the houses alight.
