A 35-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Umlazi Regional Court last week for raping his 13-year-old daughter.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni said it is very disturbing that a father will carry out such horrendous act of violence against his own child.

Colonel Jay Naicker said the victim’s mother was not at home during the incident and she reported the incident when her mother arrived.

Naicker added that the case was opened at the Bekithemba police station and transferred to Umlazi family violence, child and protection and sexually offences unit for the investigation.

"He was eventually sentenced life imprisonment in Umlazi Regional Court we are very pleased with the sentencing of the services handed down by the court and we are glad that the man will be behind bars where he belong.” Naicker said.
