Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato will today be hosting an open-air safety talks in Stellenbosch.

This follows a spate of hijackings in the area in the past two weeks.

In a statement MEC Plato released last week he stated that last year there were seven hijackings in Stellenbosch the second highest in eight years, with zero hijackings in 2005.

The total number of hijackings in the Western Cape has increased since 2010 from 457 hijackings, to 789 hijackings recorded last year.

Ministerial Spokesperson Greg Wagner said Plato has invited the SAPS, and the local municipality. He will lead a walk-about with the view to determine what needs to be done in these areas.
