Western Cape Electoral Officer Rev Courtney Sampson today said to date 1.6 million votes have been captured so far out of 2.94 million voters registered in the province.

Sampson said this is the first time in the history of the provincial IEC that result slips have been captured so fast and this is due to several innovations that were introduced by the IEC.

Here is Sampson explaining some innovations that were introduced for these elections.

Sampson said from our side as the IEC we have tried to respond to all the issues that have been brought to our attention.

Sampson said i believe that it is now time for us to move into the background and that political parties must begin to take the centre stage with our support.

“To lead us into the future and also that they will maintain the same level of accountability to us and visibility in many of the communities where their leads are the greatest Sampson added.
