Western Cape MEC of Health Theuns Botha has
called for society to prevent burn injuries on children.
This as this week is National Burns
Week. The Red Cross War Memorial Children’s
Hospital every year treats about 3 500 children for burns and about
1 300 of these cases are severe burns.
Departmental Spokesperson Angelique Jordaan
said safety tips can prevent all sorts of burns and the adults need to take
care of their young ones.
She added that stove have got to switched
off when not in use, handles must be turned away from the side of the stove,
the food has got to be cool when children are eating.
