The Western Cape Department of Social Development is focusing on strengthening families through the building of partnerships with service providers in government and civil society.

This as Friday was the 20th anniversary of International Day of Families as proclaimed by the United Nations in 1994.

The day was created in response to changing social and economic structures which have affected and still affect the structure and stability of family units.

Ministerial Spokesperson Melany Kuhn said our focus in terms of support to vulnerable families, runs through most of our programmes right through the year.

Kuhn said most of the programmes that we run are geared towards strengthening and supporting families in order to become functioning structures within our communities.
