The Democratic Alliance said the Fitness Board of Inquiry probe into the misconduct and criminal records over a thousand SAPS staff was done without the requisite authority.

The inquiry was established by the National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega to investigate criminality with the SAPS.

DA MP of police Dianne Kohler Barnard said Phiyega needs to re-establish the inquiry under the correct provisions.

“We call on Phiyega to urgently clean up her latest mess by re-establishing the boards of inquiry under the correct provisions of the SAPS disciplinary regulations.

It is now time to put the quality of our policing first, and get the best possible police commissioner into the position as soon as possible.” Barnard added.
