Grade 4 pupils have been vaccinated

The Western Cape Department of Health has vaccinated about 87 percent of grade 4 girls for Human Papillomavirus also known as HPV.

The Department has also made provision for the 13 percent of eligible girls who did not receive the vaccine during the first round will have an opportunity in the second round between September and October. 

Provincial Department of Health’s Jo-Anne Otto said 98 percent of the primary schools have been visited and vaccinated and the 2 percent is mostly boys`s primary schools.

Otto added that the total cost of the vaccine for each girl child is R 206.7.
