Western Cape MEC of Social Development Albert Fritz said the South African Social Security Agency is failing the poor.
Fritz said in a statement the problem of
unlawful deductions is clearly so massive, that a special call centre has been
set up, where grant recipients can report their cases and have the transactions
reversed.
“We have received numerous complaints from
old people who’s money has been illegally deducted for airtime and prepaid
electricity which has nothing to do with them” Fritz added.
MEC Fritz also raised his concerns about
this saying that he has written to the Minister of Social Development Bathabile
Dlamini to urgently do something about this.
