The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa has announced that it will be embarking on a strike on the 1st of July.

Numsa President Andrew Chirwa said it’s over 220 000 members have rejected the offer of between 7 and 8 percent wage offer made by the employers.

The union is demanding a 12% wage increase.

Chirwa said negotiations with employers and the mediation processes both failed.

Chirwa added that the process has so far failed and the employers have offered what is not acceptable and this is just buying power of workers.
