Several organizations including Section 27, Law Centre and the Women’s Legal Centre said the proposed changes to the country’s national parliament seem to weaken its capacity for oversight.

Parliament has proposed to reduce committees and to restructure into cluster work.  The several organizations said they are alarmed by this development.

Section 27’s Thoko Madonko said this is really problematic for the important role that parliament plays in exercising oversight over the executive but also the important role that it plays in enabling public to engage and participate and voice their issues within the parliamentary system.

”We would really like to find out more about what are the reasons and what is the thinking behind reducing the number of committees Madonko added.
