WC Traffic Authorities held roadblocks over the weekend

Western Cape Traffic Authorities over the weekend conducted 24 roadblocks across the province whereby 2 067 vehicles were stopped and checked. 

Spokesperson for the Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works Al-Ameen Kafaar said 986 drivers were screened for being under suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol. 

Provincial Traffic officials arrested 18 people for driving under the influence.

Al-Ameen Kafaar said this week alone there were about four arrests were in possession of dagga and the amount of fines issued is R 1 35800.00.

Meanwhile 12 122 vehicles were also screened for speeding of which 1 389 speeding offences were recorded. 

During this weekend’s roadblocks 228 fines were issued for various traffic violations. 

Spokesperson for the Provincial Department of Transport and Public Works Al-Ameen Kafaar said four fatalities were reported on the province’s roads. 

Al-Ameen Kafaar said the most concerning thing is the fatalities on the road and it’s mostly the pedestrians that are killed.
