ER24 paramedics and other services responded to an accident on Hindle Road in Silversands yesterday after a taxi and a light motor vehicle had collided.

Paramedics Spokesperson Luyanda Majija said they arrived at the scene and found that the deceased baby’s body lay inside the light motor vehicle.

“Three of the critically injured commuters were entrapped in the taxi and while their extrication was carried out the taxi caught alight. Fire fighters acted quickly and extinguished the fire before it could injure the patients further.” Majija added.

Majija said once the extrication was complete all patients, including the six moderately injured patients, were treated and thereafter transported to Tygerburg Hospital for urgent medical treatment.

The incident is currently under investigation by local authorities.
