The Congress of South African Trade Union in the Western Cape will be filing papers for the Class Action in the Cape Town High Court against Metrorail.

This as Metrorail has proceeded with its decision to increase ticket prices at the start of this month on top of the bad service that it is currently providing.

Cosatu’s Tony Ehrenreich said when commuters buy a ticket they enter into an agreement that the service will be relatively reliable, not endemically unreliable.

Ehrenreich said COSATU has been in negotiations with Metrorail but did not reach an agreement on how the hardships of workers currently experienced with Metrorail was not compounded by a fair increase.

“COSATU’s left with no option but to go to court and file that the money lost by workers can be recovered from Metrorail Ehrenreich added.
