The Democratic Alliance has welcomed the public hearings into the increase of murders on farms by the South African Human Rights Commission.

DA MP of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Annette Steyn said they will closely monitor these hearings and hopeful action will be taken so that people who live in rural areas can feel safe.

Steyn added that the Democratic Alliance has been saying for a very long time that the police must prioritise farm murders and they must look into this as a priority case

“We have also asked that the specialised Unit be put in place  to make sure raural safety are being looked after, so we would participate in this public hearing” Steyn said.
