Deputy Minister for Traditional Affairs Obed Bapela has condemned the death of a six-year-old in Mpumalanga.

It is alleged that the aunt of the boy took him to an illegal initiation school without the consent or knowledge of his parents.

Bapela said despite governments call to traditional leaders to ensure that in their respective areas there are no illegal schools that are operating initiates are still losing their lives.

Departmental Spokesperson Sifiso Ngcobo said the boy’s body had signs of bruises which means he was beaten before being circumcised and passing away.

The illegal school was discovered and also about three care givers have been arrested for questioning and nineteen boys have been rescued from the illegal initiation school Ngcobo added.
