Man arrested for illegal export of Marine products

A 63-year-old Namibian businessman was arrested at the Vioolsdrift boarder post for being in possession of illegal export of marine products including white mussels. 

Lieutenant Sergio Kock said the marine products found in his possession were at an estimated value of R14 000. 

He appeared in the Springbok Magistrate Court and received R6 000 or 3 months imprisonment.

Kock said after the police at the boarder post searched his vehicle they found 11400 mussels and 20 kg of squid in his vehicle. The suspect was travelling to South Africa on route to Namibia at the time of the incident.

The police confiscated the goods from his vehicles and the goods as well as his vehicle were confiscated Kock added.
