The National Union of Mineworkers said it is deeply disturbed by the fatal accident which happened at Arnot Mine in Mpumalanga.

It is believed that one mineworker died after a rock fall underground.  NUM Health and Safety Secretary Erick Gcilitshana said it is unacceptable that mineworkers are denied their basic human rights to work in an environment that guarantees their safety.

Gcilitshana said they are calling upon on the department of mineral resources to do an urgent investigation on this incident because we believe that every accident can be prevented.

“Fall of rock has been a major killer in this industry we do not know why people are still killed by the fall of rocks in the industry" Gcilitshana added.
