ER24 paramedics were called to an accident scene this morning at the Hamilton and Pretorius street intersection in Acardia, Tshwane, whereby a man in his 50s died and leaving four people injured.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said ER24 paramedics arrived on scene to find the light motor vehicle crushed against a street pole, the truck lay on its side some distance away.

“The driver of the light motor vehicle had sustained fatal injuries after he was ejected from the vehicle.  Jaws-of-life equipment had to be used to free two other occupants from the light motor vehicle, both critically injured.

Once freed, paramedics performed advanced life support on the two patients before they were transported to Steve Biko Hospital for urgent treatment.” Meiring added.

He also said all three occupants of the truck sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate. The patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further observation.

The cause of the incident is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
