WC Traffic Officials out in full force

Western Traffic Officials held 24 roadblocks across the province over the weekend.

The Authorities say these roadblocks are done with the aim to decrease road carnage and reckless driving.

Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said during weekends and school holiday they always ensure the safety of motorists on the roads.

Kenny Africa said they arrested about 28 drunken drivers and 5 others for speeding, other people were arrested for various crimes like possession of dagga or drugs.

Meanwhile the several people were arrested in various areas for various offences. 

Africa said some of the suspects were arrested and others prosecuted by mobile courts.

He added that the roadblocks are an ongoing thing because they want to ensure that people are safe at all times.

Africa said the total amount of fines issued is R185 050 and there a number of fatalities reported.
