Western Cape Premier Helen Zille said the meeting she had with Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer and MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato on looking at new strategies to curb violence against police and violence in general in the province was fruitful.

This follows the killing of three police officers last week in Nyanga and Mfuleni while responding to a crime scene.

In 2013 about eleven police officers were murdered in the Western Cape.

Premier Zille’s Spokesperson Michael Mpofu said at the moment the strategies are ongoing and he is not at liberty to disclose what exactly was discussed because it is still a sensitive issue.

“What I can say is that it includes looking at how best SAPS can work with the local authorities and looking at what communities can utilise before requiring a national assistance. In due course these strategies will be made public.” Mpofu added.
