Southern Cape police have arrested thirteen people who were involved in violent protest on Sunday and today.

Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie said the protestors destroyed property and rubber bullets had to be used to disperse the crowd.

Police believe that the disgruntled residents were protesting over electricity issues in the Kwanonqaba Township.

The arrested are expected to appear in court in Tuesday on charges of public violence.

Pojie said most of the protesters were not even sure what was the match about.
