26 motorists arrested for speeding during WC roadblocks

Western Cape Traffic Authorities this past weekend conducted 24 roadblocks across the province whereby 2 728 vehicles were stopped and checked. 

Provincial Spokesperson for the Department of Transport and Public Works Al-Ameen Kafaar said 2 149 speeding offences were also recorded. 

Meanwhile also during the roadblocks three people had their vehicles impounded in Somerset West and one person was arrested for being in possession of false documentation in Brackenfell.

Al-Ameen Kafaar said the high number of deaths on the provincial roads remains a big concern for the province.  Over the past weekend six fatalities were recorded. 

“Five pedestrians have died this weekend including a pregnant women, we call on all drivers and commuters to proceed with caution and obey to the rules of the road in order to curb down and ultimately reduce fatalities within the province Kafaar added.
