ER24 today attended to an incident whereby a woman died and another was found with possible carbon monoxide poisoning at a house in Houtbay, both were security guards.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said when paramedics arrived on the scene they found that it appears that they made fire in the room to stay warm when they were overcome by smoke and carbon monoxide from the fire.

Vermaak said another security guard found the woman lying on the floor when he reported for shift change and immediately called for help, but when paramedics arrived they could not revive one of them.

“The unconscious security guard was transported to hospital for further medical care that he required” Vermaak added.

The exact details of the cause of the incident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
