A woman and a child died in a collision near Middleburg

ER24 paramedics responded to an accident scene on the N4 approximately twenty kilometres outside of Middleburg, whereby a woman in her thirties and her child lost their lives.

It is believed a truck and light motor vehicle had collided and allegedly lost control before it veered into the path of the truck.

ER24 Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said they arrived at the scene and found that woman and her laying a few metres away both of them sustained fatally injuries. A man was also found a few meters from the wreckage in a critical condition.

Vermaak added that both the woman and child were declared dead by paramedics on the scene. The man was stabilised on the scene and later rushed off to a nearby hospital for further medical care

Exact details to the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
