Case against man charged with posession of abalone postponed

A 29-year-old man has appeared in the Beaufort West Magistrate Court after he was arrested for being in possession of illegal abalone. 

The suspect was arrested after the Central Karoo K-9 unit was patrolling the N2 when they stopped a car with one occupant inside. 
Captain Bernadine Steyn said the perlemoen was found in the Nissan X-trail he was driving on the N12 towards Oudtshoorn. When police stopped him he tried to run away, but was caught.
“He made his first appearance in court on Friday and was kept in custody Steyn added.
