The Joint Peace Forum said the community of Bonteheuwel has had enough of the escalating gang-related violence and crimes.

The Forum together with residents of Bonteheuwel sent an open letter to President Jacob Zuma, Premier Helen Zille, Mayor Patricia de Lill and Police Commissioner Arno Lamoer, but they have not received any response to the letter.

The forum’s Judy Kennedy said government and police leadership must step in.

Keneddy said parents had to run to get their kids from school because another person was shot right in front of it. The day before, another parent was held at gunpoint.”

“The forum acknowledges police in the area are doing their best to curb the shootings, but it's warned their efforts are not enough Keneddy added.
