The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa is calling for greater support for Palliative Care nurses.
The organisation wants these nurses to be given powers to prescribe morphine for patients who suffer unbearable pain.

Denosa’s Spokesperson Sibongiseni Delihalzo said this move would be a milestone that would lead to better management of patients who are in need of palliative care either in their homes or health centres.

“Most of the time patients leave in pain and we feel that prescription of morphine as a severe pain killer isn’t always the appropriate means of solution Delihalzo added.
