Pregnant woman and a child injured after a collision in Free State

ER24 paramedics attended an accident scene after a family sustained multiple injuries when their vehicle overturned several times on a gravel road between Dewetsdorp and Reddersburg in the Free State.

Paramedics Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said upon their arrival on scene they found that the woman was in a critical condition and sustained multiple fractures and injuries.

Paramedics also learned upon their assessment that she is approximately five months pregnant. The AER24 Department of Health Free State medical helicopter was called to the scene to airlift the woman.

Vermaak added that A five-year-old child was found with multiple injuries a few meters away from the vehicle. He was treated on scene for multiple injuries.

A man was found in the vehicle with moderate injuries. It is believed that he sustained chest injuries during the collision.

All three occupants were transported through to Rosepark hospital in Bloemfontein for further care.

The exact details to the cause of the accident and preceding events remain the subject of police investigation
