Accident leaves two dead on the N1 outside Bloemfontein

Two people died in an accident on the N1 just outside Bloemfontein late last night. 

This is after a motor vehicle and heavy goods vehicle collided head-on. The driver of the heavy goods vehicle was not injured.

Netcare 911 Spokesperson Santi Steinmann said upon their arrival on scene they found that a Hyundai motor vehicle and heavy goods vehicle had collided head-on.

The car then burst into flames and both occupants were entrapped in the burning vehicle. Tragically both occupants lost their lives.

The driver of the heavy goods vehicle was fortunately not injured during the accident.

Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events are unclear and will remain the subject of a police investigation.

Meanwhile in another accident along the Wartburg Road in Pietermaritzburg this morning nine people were left injured after two taxi’s collided head-on. 

The exact details of the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation. 

Netcare 911 Spokesperson Chris Botha said the patients were at the side of the road two of them had sustained serious injuries while seven escaped with relatively minor injuries.

“They were all treated on scene and taken to a nearby hospital for further medical care Botha added.
