The African National Congress in the Western Cape has called for calm in Grabouw as protest action over service delivery issues flares up.

ANC’s Songezo Mjongile said they understand the people’s frustration but do not support the means they use to vent their rage.

Residents on Wednesday burnt the fire station and eleven people have been arrested since the start of the protest action this week.

Mjongile added that they believe that the current situation could have been avoided if the municipality and provincial government would have given an ear to the concerns of the community.

“We are equally calling for calm from the leadership of the community that the current situation is unacceptable, where there is violence and where kids are not being allowed to attend school.

Which we think its count productive, we believe that the leadership of the area, can do better by managing the expectations of the community, but also not allowing the situation to get out of hand.” Mjongile said.
