City’s Metro Police clamp down on drug and illegal firearms

The Special Operations Unit of the Metropolitan Police Department executed covert operations in gang infested areas on Friday.

As part of the operation special the main focus was on persons and gangsters that are in possession of illegal firearms.

The Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security,Alderman JP Smith said crime is not confined to drug dealing, although that funds diversification into other profitable areas outside of the law.

Smith said It follows that anything pertaining to the hierarchy and their modus operandi is of interest in the amassing of intelligence for law enforcement purposes.

“While the South Africa Police Services remain the lead agency in the struggle to contain the activities of the gangs, the City has a vested interest in having a finger on the pulse of this underworld Smith added.
