Five opposition parties today staged a walk-out of the Nkandla ad hoc Committee.
This is
after the parties called for President Jacob Zuma to appear before the
committee to answer to the findings by Public Protector Thuli Madonsela,
however the African National Congress refused.
The
opposition parties said they refuse to be part of a process that is being
hijacked and manipulated by the ANC to protect President Jacob Zuma from
accountability.
DA
Parliamentary Leader Mmusi Maimane said the view of the opposition parties is
that Parliament must be a place that executives to account.
“Therefore
we felt that we could not sit through a process that does not allow President
Zuma to come and account. And also wants
to make the Public Protector to be the same as the SIU. So we then took a decision to say we could
not participate in that so we decided to walk out” Maimane added.
