The Democratic Alliance has called for more Public Order Policing and the shortage of POP staff to be dealt with urgently.

This is after the National Police Commissioner Riah Phiyega briefed Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police stating that measures are in place to enhance resource and capacitate Public Order Policing Units.

DA MP of Police Dianne Kohler Barnard said the Western Cape has only 325 POP members allocated to the province out of a total of 4 721 countrywide.

Barnard said we must now welcome that the turn around strategy is in place but this turn around strategy can take for years.
