Western Cape MEC of Social Development Albert Fritz said the whole of society can play a part in reducing violence in our communities.

This as on Sunday marked International Day of Peace.

MEC Fritz said the Western Cape is at the forefront of reducing violence and supporting victims of violence and abuse in the province.

The department funds 36 Non-Governmental Organisations which provide shelter for victims of abuse.

MEC Fritz said one of the areas that we are really concerned about and we have seen the statistics although they say it has declined is the issue of sexual violence against women and any form of domestic violence.

“We are very proud to say as this province we have doubled our budget with regards to Victim Empowerment Programme” Fritz added.
