MEC Winde calling for visa regulations to be withdrawn

Lusanda Bill
26 September 2014

Western Cape MEC of Economic Opportunities Alan Winde on Thursday attended hearings on the new visa regulations.

MEC Winde said the new visa regulations will have a negative impact on growth and jobs.

The Department of Home Affairs outsourced the handling and processing of visa applications to a company called Visa Facilitation Services.

Winde said I understand that Home Affairs has a job to do in regards with security in our country and making sure we have proper control measures.  When it comes to these regulations I am certain that they are the wrong things to be putting in place.

Meanwhile MEC Winde said the first initial study on tourism shows a R10 billion lost to our economy and 21 000 jobs lost due to the new regulations.

MEC Winde has called on Minister of Home Affairs Malusi Gigaba to retract the new visa regulations, which until a full investigation into their impact of the regulations has been conducted.
