An accident late yesterday on Spine Road in Khayelitsha left one person dead and 17 others injured. This is after a taxi collided into a bakkie.

ER24 Spokesperson Russel Meiring said when they arrived on scene, they found both vehicles stationed in the middle of the road.

“On assessment of the scene, paramedics found that the driver of the bakkie had already succumbed to his severe injuries. The 17 occupants from the taxi sat around the wrecked taxi.

Paramedics immediately began their treatment of the patients, finding their injuries ranging from minor to moderate.” Meiring added.

He also said once treated, they were transported to nearby provincial hospitals for further treatment.

The exact details of the cause of the accident will remain the subject of a police investigation.
