14 People have died in Ezakheni in separate shooting incidents

Police in Ezakheni has established a task team to investigate three shooting incidents which left fourteen people dead. 

The incidents happened in Ladysmith and surrounding areas.  Captain Thulani Zwane said in one incident occupants of an unknown vehicle opened fire towards a Mercedes Benz which resulted in the driver losing control. 

All five occupants of the Mercedes Benz died instantly after sustaining gunshot wounds.

No arrests have been made as yet and police are investigating. 

Zwane said on the same day at about 18:00 five people were at a Car Wash at D Section at Ezakheni when they were allegedly shot and killed by occupants from a Toyota Avanza vehicle.

Zwane said the suspects fled the scene in their getaway vehicle. A number of R5 and 9mm cartridges were found at the scene.

Zwane said the motive for the shooting is unknown and no arrest made. Five counts of murder were opened at Ezakheni police station. 

“The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni was shocked and saddened to hear about the death of these people at Ezakheni and she extended condolences to the families of the deceased Zwane added.
