The African Christian Democratic Party has welcomed the announcement by Minister of Sport Fikile Mbalula that South Africa is not ready to host the Africa Cup of Nations if Morocco withdraws because of the Ebola virus.

ACDP MP Cheryllyn Dudley said the most important thing is that countries need to assist in addressing the escalating ebola crisis.

The Moroccan government announced last week that they wanted the tournament to be postponed because of the Ebola crisis.

Dudley said the African football association the AF must rather postpone the event while we all do what we can to address the escalating ebola crisis.

Dudley said this is not something any country can take lightly and I am actualy particularly pleased and the ACDP welcomes the fact that our minister has taken a very stand on this.

“Before it has even gotten to cabinet South Africa has said an unequivocal no we are not putting our people at risk while this virus is at large Dudley added.
