DA submit bill that will end violent strike

The Democratic Alliance on Tuesday submitted a Private Members Bill titled Labour Relations Amendment Bill which will enforce accountability in regards with violent strikes. 

DA MP of Labour Ian Ollis said nothing must comprise the protection and lawful exercise of workers Constitutional rights. 

Ollis added that the DA hopes that the Bill will end strike violence in the country. South Africans have seen the Marikana problem unravelled and many other violent strikes occurring in South Africa

“In one particular strike during the first two weeks of the Metal and Engineering sector strike 246 cases of intimidation were reported, 50 cases that were violent incident and 85 case of vandalism. This kind of violence needs to be stopped.” Ollis
