The Food and Allied and Workers Union on Friday has welcomed the initiative on Operation Phakisa, as launched by President Jacob Zuma  to drill at least 30 deep-water oil and gas exploration wells, within the next 10 years as part of a multibillion-rand long-term plan to exploit offshore fossil fuels along the country’s 3 000km coastline.

Fawu General Secretary Katishi Masemola said this initiative is not welcomed but must be expedited if a dent to unemployment and poverty is delivered.

Its worth noting that most of our energy is important and therefore having our own sources of energy can only be a class for the country, that is why we are in full support. Masemola

This and other initiative are not only welcomed but must be accelerated, if a dent to unemployment and poverty is to be delivered.
