Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has called for greater cooperation in addressing the recent spate of mall robberies in the province.

Over the weekend a shop in Canal Walk was robbed and on Tuesday a store in High Constantia Shopping Centre was robbed, no suspects have been arrested.

MEC Plato said a new strategy will help curb mall robberies.

Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said as part of the Western Cape Government’s oversight role over policing in the province, Minister Plato will continue to monitor the effectiveness of any strategy to keep shoppers in the province safe.

“He also extend an open invitation to the SAPS, SACSC, retail owners and industry role-players to include the Department of Community Safety so that we can assist where possible.” Botha added.
