Minister Plato saddened and angered as yet another officer slain

The department of community safety said a police officer has been killed during an investigation in Khayelitsha today.

MEC Dan Plato said in a statement the 37 year old officer who was stationed at Lingelethu West, in Khayelitsha was shot on Thursday night and succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

MEC Dan Plato Spokesperson Ewald Botha said we commend the swift action by the South African Police Service in apprehending a suspect and trust that a thorough investigation will lead to a conviction and prosecution.
Botha said we trust the law will take its course and justice will be served.

“The Western Cape Department of Community Safety and National Police Management are united behind the SAPS and we call on communities to respect the police, to work with them and to ensure that we all stand as a united force in protecting those who protect us Botha added.
