A man in his 30s sustained moderate injuries while two others sustained minor injuries after a four vehicle collision on the N1 near Beyer Naude in Johannesburg North.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the four vehicles stationed on the fast lane of the highway. One of the vehicles had been badly damaged.

ER24 Spokesman Russel Meiring said on assessment of the scene, paramedics discovered that one patient lay trapped inside his vehicle in a moderate condition. Two other patients from other vehicles sustained only minor injuries.

Meiring said Rescue workers had to use the jaws-of-life equipment to free the patient before treatment could continue.

Meiring said once freed, paramedics provided the patient with advanced life support and thereafter transported him to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Meiring said the remaining patients were treated for their injuries and thereafter transported to nearby hospitals for further observations.

“The cause of the incident is not yet known but local authorities were on scene for further investigations Meiring added.
