Western Cape Traffic Authorities
over the past weekend conducted 25 roadblocks across the province of which
2 833 vehicles were stopped and checked.
1 472 drivers were screened for
driving under the influence of alcohol and 38 people were arrested for the
offence.
Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny
Africa said a total of 281 fines were issued during the roadblocks.
Kenny Africa said the highest
reading recorded was 1.19 mg per 1000 ml and that was in the Laingsburg region
4 times over the legal limit of 0.24mg per 1000ml.
Meanwhile also during the roadblocks
five people were arrested for various crimes.
Western Cape Traffic Chief Kenny Africa said one
person was arrested in Somerset West for reckless and negligent driving; two
people were arrested in Swellendam and Brackenfell for possession of dagga.
Africa said another two people were arrested in
Swellendam and Laingsburg for being in possession of false documentation.
Africa said six fatalities were recorded on the
province roads over the weekend.
Africa said one person, a pedestrian died in a motor-vehicle accident on the N1
near Brackenfell.
“In Vredenburg and Saldanha a head
on collision between two vehicles and in one of the vehicles a women passenger
died in that accident Africa added.
