The Western Cape Department of Education said it is ready and prepared for the Grade 12 learners who start their National Senior Certificate Examinations today.

In a statement the WCED said officials from the department have visited examination venues to ensure that all networks and stand-alone workstations have been properly set-up.

61 065 candidates are expected to write either today or tomorrow, Computer Applications Technology or Information Technology.

MEC Debbie Schafer said the preparations for these exams are complex given that we have to prepare for all sorts of scenarios in order to avoid any disruptions to the examinations.

Schafer said to avoid things such as power disruptions the WCED has engaged with Eskom and the relevant municipalities regarding the dates and times for the 2014 examinations in order to ensure that no disruptions take place.

“We also have contingency plans in place in an event of a computer breakdown during examinations” Schafer added.
