The Department of Basic Education together with the Limpopo department of education have launched an investigation into the schools nutrition programme in some schools in the province.

This is after more than 100 pupils were hospitalized after crushed glass and small stones were allegedly found in their food.

The departments Elijah Mhlanga said at the moment it looks like we are going to be terminating contracts particularly of those suppliers who food items have been contaminated.

Mhlanga said as the department we are very concerned about these reports because it indicates that the food being given to the learners is not of good quality that we expect from the suppliers.

“We cannot comprise under any circumstances the lives of children and we feel that we need to take urgent steps to address the situation” Mhlanga added.
