Illegal Immigration syndicate bust in KwaZulu Natal

Eight suspects are expected to appear in court on charges of theft, fraud, theft by false pretences and contravening the immigration act. 

This follows on an operation by the Hawks, Crime intelligence and the Department of Home Affairs in KwaZulu Natal.

The investigation conducted was to take down a syndicate that was responsible for many illegal immigrants entering the country with falsified documents. 

Colonel Jay Naicker said further targets that assisted the syndicate in obtaining stolen identity documents and falsifying documents as well as those who orchestrated bogus marriages were arrested in a well-co-ordinated operation.

Naicker said thus far a total of eight suspects were arrested by police. Hundreds of documents as well as passports, identity documents, cell phones and laptops were seized during the raids.

Naicker said according to the documents seized by police the syndicate was responsible for immigration crimes affecting people of many foreign nationalities entering South Africa.

“The suspects will be charged for theft, fraud, theft by false pretences and for contravening the immigration act Naicker added.
