Hawks have arrested a 33 year old Chinese national for alleged involvement in rhino poaching.

Hawks Spokesperson Hangwani Mulaudzi said the man was arrested on Saturday afternoon in Sandton by organised crime assisted Crime Intelligence and Westrand K9 after he was found in possession of a rhino horn.

Mulaudzi said he was trying to trade the rhino horn illegal in Sandton and we received information about that whereby there was a take down operation with other units of the SAPS whereby we managed to arrest the suspect.
“The rhino horn will be subjected to DNA anaylisis to determine whether it was dehorned in the country or not” Mulaudzi added.

Mulaudzi said Investigators are already hard at work, profiling these suspects’ possible links to a spate of other crimes.

The suspect appeared in court yesterday and will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
